what
is it? |
| Tots
and Tonic is an event to help new mothers meet other neighborhood
moms and get into the mix again. It is distinct from a playgroup in
that it's a social event for new MOMS, where babies are welcome. |
| Tots
'n' Tonic is a great place to hear about local events, trade stories
and information, make contacts, learn about mom-run businesses, all
while trying a new restaurant. |
history |
| Tots
and Tonic developed during the year after my son was born. I met a
great group of new moms who all went to the same dog park with their
dogs. We started meeting at each other houses for lunch. I found that
I looked forward to the companionship of the women. We shared baby
stories and information, but we also talked about our present or former
jobs and other interests. |
| The
playgroups were an invaluable antidote to the isolation of having
a newborn in the city, great for the babies, and an important affirmation
of the individuals we were in addition to being moms. |
 |
| With
a minor baby boom going on and so many interesting moms facing the
same difficulties of urban mom-hood, I thought this would be an experience
that could be beneficial to moms throughout the city. |
what's in the name |
|
The name Tots & Tonic comes from a San Francisco group that began
with parents inviting each other over for drinks. Matt Gordon, a professional
name maker, coined the term and is amused at the popularity the name
has achieved on the East Coast. |
